Travel Itinerary

Come take an authentic look at farm life in Ireland. This sheep farm is a traditional working Connemara mountain farm which has been in the same family for generations. It has approximately 200 ewes and lambs who roam freely in the mountains overlooking Killary Fjord. On arrival visitors are met by Tom the farmer and have the option to be outfitted with outdoor footwear and rainwear supplied by the farm. Tom starts off the farm tour with a sheepdog herding demonstration. These extremely smart dogs are trained from puppies and it is incredible to watch them in action! In the summer months, Tom shears the sheep by traditional methods with hand shears. It is an old farm tradition not often seen anymore. The tour also includes a picturesque country walk through the farm grounds, with sweeping views of Killary Fjord and the mountain ranges beyond. Try your hand at bog-cutting using the slean (turf spade), a centuries-old practice of harvesting peat to heat homes. If there are lambs about (and there usually are), you can count on a few needing bottle-feeding. You’re welcome to lend a hand!View Location

No redemption point. This is a direct entry ticketContact details: +353 (0) 87 298 8051 Meet point: Killary Sheep Farm Address: Bunowen, Leenaun, County Galway, H91 EPEO We suggest using Google maps and search for Killary Sheep Farm or use code H91 EPEO . ***Please note mobile signal can be weak in some areas of this mountainous region, so note the travel directions below. Please meet 15 minutes before start time. Travel Directions: From Galway: Follow the signs for the N59 Clifden and after passing through the towns of Moycullen and Oughterard you will arrive at Maam Cross (easily distinguished by Peacock’s hotel complex on your right). At this crossroads turn right following the signs for Leenaun. At the next T-junction at Keane’s Pub, turn left. After about 11km this road will bring you into the village of Leenane. You will then go through the village and taking the Clifden Road (Connemara Loop)-keep the water on your right hand side, where after another 7km you will see the sign for Bunowen L51022. Take the road to your right for 1km untill you arrive at Killary Sheep Farm-which is sign posted at the end of the road. From Westport: Once in Westport look for the Leenane/Clifden road (signposted N59) and follow it for about 30kms to the village of Leenane. Once in Leenane turn right onto the Clifden road (N59) keeping the Killary Fjord on your right and we are 7km along this road on the right hand side sign posted BUNOWEN L51022. We recommend going via Westport if you are coming from Dublin on a Friday evening to avoid the traffic in Galway City. From Dublin: To get to Killary Sheep Farm from Dublin you can travel via Westport or Galway City. The road is mostly motorway and dual carriageway from Dublin to Galway, which makes it a more direct route. To get to Westport from Dublin you will be taking the M4 motorway and then joining the N5 (national route) from Mullingar via Longford, Strokestown, Castlebar and then Westport. As you do not pass through any cities this may be a quicker route during rush-hour periods.

Cancellation & Refunds

Cancellable up to 24 hours before the travel date (local supplier time) for a full refund. A 100% cancellation penalty applies for cancellations submitted less than 24 hours before the start time.
