Shirakawago
517 Hatogaya, Shirakawa-mura, Japan, 501-5629You will visit the streets of Ogimachi village in Shirakawa-go, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are many Gassho-zukuri houses lined along the streets.
Upon request, we will also take you to local private houses that are open to the public. There you can observe the history of the village, lifestyle of the locals, etc. The architecture that does not use nails is also very interesting.
During the visit, you can enter the local houses, museums, etc. if you like. Entrance fees are payable on site.
Lunch is available in the village. However, it takes time when it is crowded.
Your will stay in the Shirakawago area for 2 hours, or 3 hours if you take lunch in the village.

Ogimachi Castle Old Site Observatory

- This tour is optimized with those staying in Kyoto/Osaka in mind. The meeting point for this tour is the Gifu-Hashima Station of the Shinkansen. This station is easily accessible from Kyoto and Shin-Osaka stations. About 40 minutes from Kyoto by Kodama/Hikari trains. Nozomi trains do not stop at this station.
- Shinkansen bullet train tickets are not included in the tour price. We do not arrange tickets either. Shinkansen tickets can be purchased at JR station ticket counters or ticket vending machines. JR Pass can be used if you have one.
- We can advise you which Shinkansen train to take. Contact us where you are staying.
- Travel Time. Please note that the one-way trip from Gifu-Hashima Station (pick-up point) to Shirakawago takes at least 2.5 hours. So a return trip takes five hours in the car. If there is snow or heavy rain, it will take longer.
- You will have lunch either at a restaurant inside Shirakawa-go or along the way. You will have to wait in line during busy times, so please allow one hour for lunch.
- According to Japanese law, child seats are mandatory for children under 140 cm in height. However only two child safety seats can be provided. Please let us know the age and height of your child. Japanese law requires a child safety seat for children under 140 cm in height. If your group includes more than two children who are less than 140cm tall, you cannot join this tour.
- In the event of heavy snowfall, the bullet train may be disrupted or significantly delayed. Be sure to check the Shinkansen web site. Please note that your late cancellation will result in no refunds.
- If heavy snow is forecasted or a highway closure is scheduled, the tour will be cancelled. There is no alternative route. Please understand this in advance.
- The price of this tour does not include entrance fees to museums, temples, shrines, castles, etc. If you wish to visit such facilities, please pay by cash on site.
- Our car is 8-seater van. If there are four or less passengers, then you can sit comfortably in our car. If there are more people than that, three people will sit in a row.
- If there are four or more passengers, our car will not have space for a wheelchair. Wheelchairs are available for rent in Shirakawa-go, but cannot be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
- If you are prone to carsickness, you may want to take some medicine. You will be in the car for up to 6 hours.
