It is the birthplace of Aristides Pereira, the first President of the Republic of Cape Verde, after whom the island's airport is named. Joao Galego
Joao Galego, Cape VerdeIt is the most populated of the three Northern villages and home to most of the island’s vegetable gardens, earning it the nickname “The Pantry of Boa Vista.” With around 400 inhabitants, João Galego is known for its charming main street (“rua direita”) and serves as our gateway out of the Northern villages. From here, we connect to the so-called “Route 66” — a road that cuts through the island, offering breathtaking views.
