Lined with traditional “kura-zukuri” storehouses featuring grand tile roofs, thick black plaster walls, and heavy casement doors, Ichiban-gai feels like a step back in time. Known as the heart of Kawagoe, this main street preserves the Edo-period atmosphere and is home to the famous Toki no Kane (Time Bell Tower). For over a century, it served as a bank supporting the local community. In May 2024, it was reborn as Resona Koedo Terrace. Today, it serves as an incubation hub and also houses restaurants, shops, and other commercial spaces—bridging Kawagoe’s history with its future.4
Toki no Kane

Rising above the charming Edo-style kura (storehouse) townscape, the Toki no Kane has been a beloved symbol of Kawagoe since the early Edo period. This wooden, three-tiered bell tower stands about 16 meters tall and still chimes four times daily—at 6:00 a.m., noon, 3:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. The sound of the bell, blending with the color of the sky, the scent of the air, and the quiet streets, evokes a unique sense of timeless beauty and nostalgia in the heart of Koedo Kawagoe.5 minutes • Admission Ticket FreeView Location5
Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine

Here, participants will receive a special purification prayer to refresh both body and spirit, followed by a sacred charm as a gift. The prayer ceremony will take place at the time announced at the start of the tour. When the time comes, please follow staff instructions to proceed to the main shrine building.
Once you receive your charm, the tour concludes.
