Kalambaka, GreeceYou’ll arrive at Meteora, which means 'suspended in the air.' This area is home to six of the 24 original monasteries, UNESCO World Heritage sites built on steep rock peaks in the 14th and 15th centuries.
Your first stop is Varlaam Monastery, where you’ll meet your licensed guide. They’ll take you through the monastery and explain its fascinating history. Inside, you’ll see beautiful Byzantine crosses and icons in the sanctuary, showing the deep religious history of the region. As your guide shares stories and details, you’ll learn more about the monastery’s significance.
