Bellapais Monastery
Bellapais Village, Kyrenia, CyprusToday we start the day by driving to Kyrenia and visiting one of the nicest historical sights at the area. Gothic abbey was a Lusignan foundation for Augustinian canons. It is one of the nicest Monasteries in Middle East which is built on the slopes of Kyrenia Mountains. It was used as a Monastery until the 16th century when Ottomans came to the island.
The Monastery is located at the Bellapais village which is one of the unique villages of the area. Lawrence Durell had also lived in the village which he wrote his book ' The Bitter Lemons of Cyprus'. St Barnabas Monastery and Icon Museum
