About Bowes Railway
Bowes Railway was originally a colliery railway built to carry coal mainly from pits in north west Durham to the Tyne at Jarrow. It was built by George Stephenson in 1826, is the world's only operational preserved standard gauge cable railway system. The railway is open every week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well as on a number of event days throughout the year.Address : Springwell Rd, Gateshead NE9 7QJ, UK
