About Leitha Mountains
The Leitha Mountains are a range of hills in Austria lying on the boundary between Lower Austria and Burgenland. The range is an offshoot of the Alps and forms a connection to the Carpathians to the north. The ridge is heavily forested with deciduous trees such as oak, hornbeam, and beech predominating. Turmmuseum BreitenbrunnA beautiful tower museum located in the heart of Burgenland. Here you can marvel at the oldest tower clock in Burgenland - one of the last one-hand clocks ever. You can marvel at the skeleton of the Winden cave bear as well as old tools and coins. On the top floor there is a large number of display boards about the hydrogeology and history of Lake Neusiedl.
Bear CaveThis is the only cave in Burgenland with finds of Ice Age cave fauna. The bear cave is located about three kilometers north of the village of Winden on the western slope of the Zeilerberg. It is about twenty meters above the street. It is a layered joint cavity . It was probably formed in the Pannonian as a surf cave of the Miocene Sea in limestone.
Bunkeranlage UngerbergThe Ungerberg bunker system is a line of defense from the Cold War era , which was built in 1959/60 by the Austrian Armed Forces near the Bruckneudorf barracks . As one of the branches of the Army History Museum , the complex now serves as an open-air museum.
HölzlsteinThe Hölzlstein is a 10 by 20 meter large limestone with a height of 157 meters, in the cadastral community of Oggau and forms part of the Rust foothills. The rock is a prehistoric sea reef and dates from the time when the area was still below sea level. From a geological point of view, the Hölzlstein is a Leithakalkklippe, which consists of tertiary sand-lime stone, which comes to the surface at its highest point in the form of a small, widely visible rock formation.
Podersdorf LighthouseThe lighthouse Podersdorf at the main pier, located exactly in the middle of the seaside resort, was built as a point of orientation and for storm warnings for water sports enthusiasts in the course of the redesign of the 2 km long lido. It is one of the few lighthouses in the Republic of Austria and at the same time one of the southernmost lighthouses in the entire German-speaking area.
