Spruce Canyon Trail is a hiking trail located in Montezuma County, Colorado. The trail is named for the spruce trees that grow along the canyon walls. The trailhead is located at an elevation of 8,200 feet, and the trail winds its way up to a peak of 9,200 feet. Along the way, hikers can enjoy views of the San Juans and the Rio Grande Rift Valley. The trail was originally built by miners in the late 19th century as a way to access mining claims in Spruce Canyon. However, the mines were soon abandoned, and the trail fell into disuse. In the early 21st century, the trail was rediscovered by hikers and has since become a popular destination for those looking to experience the beauty of Colorado's backcountry.

It is best to visit during the summer months. This is when the weather is warm and the days are long, so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the views.

Spruce Canyon Trail is located in Montezuma County, Colorado. The trailhead is located on the south side of Highway 550, about 1.5 miles east of the town of Silverton. From the trailhead, the trail climbs steeply for about 0.5 miles before leveling off somewhat.

There is no entrance fee to explore this beautiful area. 

The trail is open year-round, and hikers can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains. However, due to the high altitude and harsh weather conditions, the trail is usually only open during the summer months. From June to September, the trail is open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
