Oliver Twist Lake - 12 Things to Know Before Visiting

Oliver Twist Lake is a great place to camp in the summer, enjoying the scenic mountainous views. Anglers could fish in the lake as well. There are also plenty of hiking trails in the area leading to the towering peaks that could bring you some adventure time.

In the dead of winter, the whole area will be covered in thick snow. If you have a snowmobile, it will be fun to explore the area around the lake with it.

The best time to visit Oliver Twist Lake is during the summer months when the weather is warm and dry. During summer, the lake is perfect for swimming and fishing. The surrounding areas are ripe for some hiking as well. There are also plenty of scenic spots to enjoy a picnic lunch or just relax and take in the scenery.

2. Fishing is allowed at the lake.
3. Please be prepared for changes in weather and road conditions. The lake is situated slightly off from the motorable road.
4. Accessibility to the lake is quite difficult. Only a high-clearance vehicle would get you near the lake area.
5. After reaching the North London Mine through Mosquito Pass, watch out for small roads that lead to the lake.
6.  Be aware of your surroundings and be alert for hazards such as snakes or other wildlife.

1. The lake is situated at an elevation of 3,700 meters. It is one of the many high-altitude lakes in the Rocky Mountain area.
2. The lake is typically frozen in winter, making it a nice spot for ice fishing.

It would take about half a day to explore Oliver Twist Lake fully. There are possibilities to spend multiple days here exploring the different hiking trails if you plan to camp.

From Denver, take US 285 towards the historic Town of Fairplay(about 1.5 hours, 138 km). From Fairplay, take state highway 9 towards Alma Junction(about 5 minutes, 6.5 km). From Alma Junction, take the unpaved Mosquito Pass Road to North London Mine (about 30 minutes, 13.4 km). Note that the road is unpaved and uneven from Alma Junction onwards and recommended only to drive using a high-clearance vehicle. Near the North London Mine lies the dirt road to Oliver Twist Lake.

There is no entrance fee for Oliver Twist Lake.

There are no specific opening and closing hours. Just make sure to be there when there is enough daylight and when there are no adverse weather situations.
