Trikut Parvat- 10 Things to Know Before Visiting

There are three peaks at Trikut Parvat named after the three Hindu Gods- Bramha, Vishnu and Shiva. Out of the three, only one peak is open for tourists. Visitors can either take the cable car to the peak or hike up the numerous stairs. The cable car offers views of the steep hill side and large boulders laying below the hill.

The hill is covered with clouds in rainy seasons, with waterfalls and small streams visible from July to September. The views from the top are scenic, stretching to the solar panels situated in Tapovan (The first solar energy hub in Jharkhand). The peak has a lot of spots that you can visit that are related to the Hindu epic Ramayana- Hanuman Chest, Sita Deep, Helipad of Ravana, Narayana Shila, suicide Point, Andheri Guha(Ravana's Cave), Ganesh Parvat, Belpatra Bagan(Shiva devotees break Wood fruit tree leaves here and offer it to Baba Dham temple in Deoghar. Crawling through rocks and holes gives the visitors an adrenaline rush.

The summit of the peak is flat and there is an oval rock here that balances itself for ages without any support. There is a small gap below the rock through which humans can crawl. The rock is worshipped as Vishnu Rock and it is believed that if someone passes through the gap, then they will get rid of all their faults in their planetary alignment.

Trikut Parvat is known for its connections to stories from Hindu mythologies. Ravana, the king of Lanka (now Sri Lanka) was the most revered devotee of Shiva. To impress Lord Shiva, the king performed intense penance for several thousand years and sang songs in praise of him. Pleased with his utter devotion and the melody of his hymns, Shiva asked him for a wish.

Ravana, wished for the Lord to accompany him to Lanka, stunning all the other Hindu gods and goddesses. Shiva agreed to go with him in the form of Shiva linga, and on one condition. If ever Ravana, for any reason during the journey, keeps the Shivlinga at any other place, then the lingam will be established there itself for eternity.

Ravana giddily accepted it and began the journey. In the middle of his voyage, Ravana had a sudden urge to relieve himself. His eyes fell on the Trikut Parvat where he landed at the top. One of the points on Trikut Parvat is named Ravana's Helipad.

The king, recalling Shiva's condition, tried to search for any signs of life which could for the time being hold the Shiva linga. He turned into a giant to have a wider view of the area and saw a young boy in the fields of Deoghar with his cattle and requested help.

The boy, who was a carnation of Lord Ganesha, agreed but on the condition of Ravana coming back to take possession of the Shiva linga after 3 calls. The king agreed but since the river Ganges was flowing inside him, it took longer than expected to relieve himself completely. ]

Several hours later when Ravana came back to take back the Shiva linga, he became furious as the boy had left already with the Shiva linga kept on the ground. Ravana tried everything to uplift it again but true to Shiva's words, the deed had already been done. Exhausted and frustrated, Ravana kicked the Shiva linga, rooting it further into the ground.

The cable car to the peak and accident in April 2022

Trikut Parvat peak is connected to the base by a 766 meters long cable car with 26 cabins. Each cabin could accommodate 4 people and it only took 10 minutes to reach the peak from the base, offering picturesque views of Deogha town and the landscape around.

An accident on the cable car in April 2022 brought the relatively unknown Trikut Parvat to the national and international limelight. A mishap in the cable car trapped 48 persons for several hours. Even though the service is stopped since then, Trikut Parvat continues to be a well-liked destination for visitors and has a lot to offer in terms of adventure and visual beauty.

The best time to visit Trikut Parvat is from November to March. But if you want to see waterfalls and the river Mayurakshi in full force, visit in July - August.

1. If you are planning to visit the mountain by hiking, be vary of the ferocious monkeys that would steal stuff and in rare times hurt you. There are thousands of them.
2. If you are taking the cable car, make sure to take the return journey within the allotted time of one hour.
3. The cable car can be under maintenance, check the status if you are planning to take it and not hike up.
4. The place will be packed during holidays and weekends.
5. Take special care of the kids. There are a lot of uneven areas and steep falls.

1. River Mayurakshi, which flows through several districts of the state of West Bengal and joins the bigger River Hooghly, originates from Trikut Hill.
2. Trikut Parvat is the only destination in Jharkhand where a ropeway is in use. The ropeway is 766 meters in length.

If you are an adventure lover, the stairs and the trekking route will delight you. It will take you roughly two hours to reach the top of the hill. In the ropeway, it will only take 10 minutes to reach the top. You only need to spend an hour at the peak.

From Deoghar Junction railway station, take a train to Sirsa Nunthar Halt. From Sirsa Nunthar Halt, you can take a taxi to Trikut Parvat, which is only 10 minutes away.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi directly from Deoghar which would take minutes to reach.

A ride to the top of Trikut Parvat by cable car costs INR 150 for adults and 75 for children. Apart from this, there is no entry fee, especially if you are hiking up.

Note that there are a lot of guides here who charge a separate fee if you take their service. You do not need it on a casual visit.

The cable car service at Trikut Parvat starts from 8 AM to 4 PM. As of April 2022, it is under maintenance from an accident, so check the status before you go.

If you are planning to hike, visit between the same time too as it is dangerous to hike when there is not enough daylight.
