About His Majesty's Fort at Crown Point
His Majesty's Fort at Crown Point, located in Essex County, was built in 1759-1760 by the British during the French and Indian War. The fort was intended to protect the military supply route between Albany and Quebec City from French forces. It consisted of a large square fort made of logs surrounded by a defensive ditch and armed with several cannons, plus two blockhouses.
