About Mogollon Rim

The Rim is an escarpment defining the southwestern edge of the Colorado Plateau. Its central and most spectacular portions are characterized by high cliffs of limestone and sandstone, namely the Kaibab Limestone and Coconino Sandstone cliffs. Mogollon Rim provides breathtaking views overlooking an expansive forest of pine trees.

Hellsgate WildernessThis Wilderness was established in 1984, and contains approximately 37,440 rough acres with a major canyon and perennial stream extending its entire length. Deep pools of water may be separated by impassable falls. The Hellgsate Wilderness contains many trails for hiking as well as camping spots. However, usage of this area is light as trailheads are difficult to reach without 4-wheel-drive capability, and most trails are rated as challenging.

Hangman TrailThe Hangman Trailhead & FR 86 provides access to this trail. This trail follows areas affected by the 2002 Rodeo-Chediski Fire.A very nice trail, at the beginning quite flowig, later steeper. In the first section there are two medium-sized ramps. Tehre are also so many things to see and do which is quiet interesting and also there are so many things to see also.
