About Manado
Manado is the capital city of the Indonesian province of North Sulawesi. It is the second largest city in Sulawesi after Makassar, with the 2015 estimated population of 425,420 distributed over a land area of 157 km². The Manado metropolitan area has a population of 1.2 million as of 2018. Mount MahawuMount Mahawu is a stratovolcano located immediately east from Lokon-Empung volcano in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The volcano is capped with 180 m wide and 140 m deep crater with two pyroclastic cones in the northern flanks. A small explosive eruption was recorded in 1789. In 1994, fumaroles, mud pots, and small geysers activities were observed along the greenish shore of a crater lake.
Mount LokonMount Lokon, also known as Gunung Lokon, together with Mount Empung, is a twin volcano in the Tomohon, Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, roughly 10 km south of Manado. In recent years there have been reports of decreasing water levels at Lake Tondano; from 1934 when it was 40 meters, to 1993 to 23 meters, 18 meters in 1996 and 12 meters in 2010. The halfbeak fish Tondanichthys kottelati and calanoid copepod Phyllodiaptomus sulawesensis are endemic to the lake.
