10 Gr Grande RueThe trail hiking 10 or GR 10 is a great hiking trail French crossing the chain Pyrenees, connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. From west to east, it begins by climbing the hillsides of the Basque Country from Hendaye on the Atlantic Ocean, on the Basque Coast, then joins the Mediterranean Sea at Banyuls-Sur-Mer on the Côte Vermeille, a 916 km route.

Abbaye de FontfroideThe Abbey of Fontfroide is a Cistercian abbey located on the territory of the commune of Narbonne a, in the department of Aude in France. Initially a Benedictine abbey, it was incorporated into the Cistercian order between 1144 and 1145. Today, the Abbey of Fontfroide is a member of the Charter of Cistercian abbeys and sites in Europe. The Abbey of Fontfroide is currently a private monument held by the descendants of Gustave and Madeleine Fayet.

AlyscampsThe Alyscamps is a large Roman necropolis, which was consecrated in the 3rd century by Saint Trophime, the first bishop of Arles, as a burial ground for Christians. They were famous in the Middle Ages and are referred to by Ariosto in Orlando Furioso and by Dante in the Inferno. Christians from far up the river Rhone river would send corpses down the river on rafts with a coin in the mouth to pay for burial in this necropolis.

Aven ArmandThe Aven Armand cave, discovered in 1897 by Louis Armand, Martel's second-in-command, has a forest of over 400 stalagmites in its immense underground chamber. It is not exactly a cave: the latter is a horizontal underground cavity, more or less deep, comprising at least one accessible part. It has been open to the public since 1927 after a man-made tunnel and walkway paths were created to permit easier viewing of the Grand Salle.

Situated near to Prades, this Pyrenean mountain is even more impressive in winter, when its snow-covered outline is seen clearly against the surrounding countryside of the coast. CarlitThe Carlit peak is a metamorphic peak in the French Pyrenees located in the Carlit massif. It is the highest point in the Pyrénées-Orientales department with an altitude of 2,921 meters. Its name comes from the massif in which it is located. The cold sub-oceanic climate brings many disturbances and a lasting winter snow cover above 2000 meters from November to April.

Causse MéjanThe Causse Méjean is a vast French limestone plateau that is part of the Grands Causses. It is the highest of the Caussenards plateaus with an altitude varying from 800 m to 1,247 m at Mount Gargo. Its surface area is approaching 340 km. The Causse Méjean is entirely included in the perimeter of the Causses and Cévennes site, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list on June 29, 2011.

Cave of NiauxThe famous Niaux Cave is located in the northern foothills of the Pyrenees just south of the French town of Foix. It is one of Europe's most impressive Palaeolithic rock art galleries of cave paintings. There are more than two kilometres of galleries, with a hundred or more superb paintings from Magdalenian times, most of which are in the famous 'Salon Noir', 800 metres from the entrance.

Château de MontségurThe Château de Montségur is probably the best known of all Cathar Castles. It is famous as the last Cathar stronghold, which fell after a 10-month siege in 1244. A field below the hilltop castle is reputed to be the site where over 200 Cathars were burned alive, having refused to renounce their faith. The present ruin is open to the public, as is a museum in the nearby modern village of Montségur. There is an entrance fee for both.

Château de PeyrepertuseThe castle of Peyrepertuse is a so- called "Cathar" castle located in the department of Aude in the Occitanie region. It sits on a limestone ridge at an altitude of nearly 800 m, at the top of a hill that separates Duilhac from the village of Rouffiac-des-Corbières, overlooking garrigue and vineyards. The strategic position which allows you to see far into the various valleys which surround it, to control the passes or to communicate signals to the castle of Quéribus a little further south.

Château de QuéribusThe castle of Quéribus is a so-called "Cathar" castle located in the town of Cucugnan in the department of Aude. This fortress, perched on a rocky peak at an altitude of 728 meters, dominates the village of Cucugnan and is located on the border of the department of Aude and the Pyrénées-Orientales. Quéribus is high and isolated. It stands on top of the highest peak for miles around. Cirque de GavarnieThe Cirque de Gavarnie is one of nature’s most unique and spectacular creations. Located in the department of Hautes-Pyrénées in the Pyrénées National Park, it forms France’s southern border with Spain. This cirque is described as a rocky cliff face or wall that forms a curved amphitheater. The cirque is 800 m wide and about 3,000 m wide at the top. The rock walls that surround it are up to 1,500 metres above the floor of the Cirque.
