The canton of Valais is considered as one of the driest regions of Switzerland. The famous scenic rail route across the Furka Pass originates from this canton. It also includes one of the biggest tourist attractions in the Swiss mountains called Matterhorn.

Aletsch Glacier

The Aletsch Glacier or Great Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in the Alps. It has a length of about 23 km has about a volume of 15.4 km3 , and covers about 81.7 km2 in the eastern Bernese Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais. The Allalinhorn is a mountain in the Pennine Alps in Switzerland. It lies between Zermatt and Saas-Fee in the canton of Valais and is part of the Mischabel range, which culminates at the Dom . The Col de Balme is a high mountain pass of the Alps, located on the border between Switzerland and France. It connects Trient in the Swiss canton of Valais to Argentière in the French department of Haute-Savoie. The pass lies between the summits of Tête de Balme and Les Grandes Otanes. Col de la Forclaz is a mountain pass in the Alps in the Canton of Valais in Switzerland. It connects Martigny at 471 m and Le Châtelard. The road from Martigny to the Col has an average gradient of 6% but in parts is closer to 8%. After the Col, and Le Châtelard, the road leads to Chamonix in France via Vallorcine and the Col des Montets. The pass was little known in the 19th century. It was not until the rise in tourism, particularly in Chamonix, that the region became a popular tourist area.

The Dent Blanche is a mountain in the Pennine Alps, lying in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It is 4,357 metres -high, it is one of the highest peaks in the Alps. The summit of Dent Blanche is an important geographic place as it is the converging point of three ridges. The three valleys separated by them are the Val d'Hérens, Val d'Anniviers, and Mattertal. The respective villages of Evolène, Zinal, and Zermatt lie approximatively at the same distance as the mountain.

The Eggishorn is a mountain in the southeastern part of the Bernese Alps, located north of Fiesch in the Swiss canton of Valais. A cable car station is located on a secondary summit named Fiescherhorli, 500 meters south of the main peak.
