Lower Austria

Aussichtsturm Naturpark Hohe Wand

Höllental
The Höllental in Lower Austria is a narrow valley between the steep limestone massifs of the Schneeberg and Rax through which the River Schwarza flows. It stretches for a total of 16.5 km between Schwarzau im Gebirge and Hirschwang and, because of its natural beauty, it belongs to the Natura 2000 region of Northeastern Border Alps. Because the valley is a popular tourist destination, there are several restaurants along the road.

Muckenkogel
Muckenkogel is a part of the Gutensteiner Alps in the Austrian province of Lower Austria. Rising 4095 feet above sea level, the mountain is one of several close to the historic city of Lilienfeld. Today it is of historical significance due to the Czech-born ski pioneer Mathias Zdarsky. On March 19, 1905 the first official Alpine Ski Race was held on Muckenkogel. It was won by Zdarsky. Today, the mountain is a spot for hiking, mountain biking, as well as paragliding.

Wachau
The Wachau is a UNESCO world heritage site and region of natural beauty, and lies in the Danube valley between the towns of Melk and Krems. This beautiful Austrian valley with a picturesque landscape formed by the Danube river. It is 36 kilometres in length and was already settled in prehistoric times. A well-known place and tourist attraction is Dürnstein, where King Richard the Lionheart of England was held captive by Duke Leopold V of Austria and Styria.
