Beaver Brook Trail
Beaver Brook Trail is actually a small system of trails that sit very close to the front range of the Denver Metro area. It is a challenging hiker only trail connecting Windy Saddle Park, Clear Creek Canyon Park, and Denver Mountain Parks' Genesee Mountain Park. Distances range from 4 miles up to 20+ as out an out-and-back, and you can change your experience wildly from easy to very difficult.

Clear Creek Canyon Park
Clear Creek Canyon Park offers unique recreation experiences among its steep canyon walls and fast flowing creek. With the opening of a segment of the Peaks to Plains Trail, bicycles are allowed in the canyon for the first time. This project also includes the first suspension bridge in Jefferson County. This pedestrian-only crossing of Clear Creek near Tunnel 1 connects hikers with the restored wooden flume of the Welch Ditch on the south side of the creek.

Corwina Park

Goose Creek Trailhead
The Goose Creek trailhead is easily reached from Bozeman or Livingston Montana. It is accessed by exiting Interstate 90 about 7 miles east of Bozeman at Exit 316, the Trail Creek exit. The landscape is surreal. The forest is lush and the rock formations are striking.

Hildebrand Ranch Park
Hildebrand Ranch was a large cattle ranch and farm along Deer Creek southwest of Denver. After remaining in the hands of the Hildebrand family for more than a century, the ranch was condemned by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1971 for the construction of Chatfield Reservoir. The ranch sits on land that had been used for thousands of years as hunting, gathering, and camping grounds by Native inhabitants including the Ute, Cheyenne and Arapaho.

Mason Creek Trail
Mason Creek Trail is mostly smooth doubletrack with very moderate grades. About a half mile into the trail, you'll hike through a stunning aspen grove, which is worth the trip in and of itself. Soon the trail narrows, becomes rocky, and begins to follow a creek. The final few miles are relatively unremarkable doubletrack that terminates in the parking lot.

Matthews / Winters Park
Matthews/Winters Park, which is part of the Jefferson County Open Space system, is proof that you do not have to go far from the city to enjoy the mountains. You can explore the old headstones along the Village Walk. A creek weaves through the park, feeding the fragrant wild plums and willows. The trails are not too difficult, though the Morrison Slide is a bit of a climb.

Windy Saddle
Windy Saddle Park is a 400-acre Jefferson County Open Space located on Lookout Mountain perched above Golden, CO. There is a small trail system connected to Lookout Mountain Nature Center located in the adjacent Denver Mountain Parks Lookout Mountain Preserve, as well as a steep multi-use trail that leads all the way down the mountain to Hwy 93 in Golden below.
