Rolling Hills Asylum
Rolling Hills Asylum has a long and fascinating history that is intertwined with the history of its most famous visitor: Jell-O. The asylum opened in 1827 and was originally intended to house people from all walks of life who were facing mental health issues. It quickly became one of the largest asylums in the United States and, by the early 1900s, was home to over 2,500 people. It is also here that Jell-O made its debut in 1897 when it was served at a Saturday night dance.
