Dausa is named after a hill near the city that was called Devgiri. On the top of the hill is situated a fort, built by Badgujar kings, who were the original rulers of this area. Later, Dausa was given by Chauhans to Kachwan.
District Dholpur is situated in the eastern part of Rajasthan. it is bordered by Bharatpur district of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to the north, Madhya Pradesh to the south, Karauli district to the west and Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to the east.
The district contains the archaeological site of Kalibangan ( Indus valley civilization) and Pallu. It also is known as Punjab of Rajasthan because of the majority Punjabi people in the district.
