About Hoornse Meer
The Hoornsemeer is a recreational lake south of the city of Groningen . The lake is about 5 km away from the city center. The lake was created by sucking away the sand layer that lies under a peat layer. In summer, the Hoornsemeer is popular with townspeople and other holidaymakers from the area. An Arboretum is located at the entrance, on the Paterswoldseweg. West of the trotting track, on the edge of the pond, is the pavilion from 1926.
