About Neuschwanstein Castle
19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau. The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II, King of Bavaria as a retreat and in honor of the German composer Richard Wagner. The castle was intended as a home for the king until he died in 1886. It was open to the public shortly after his death. The Castle consists of several individual structures that were erected over a length of 150 meters on top of a cliff ridge. Hohenschwangau CastleThe childhood residence of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, built by his father King Maximilian II of Bavaria. It is located in the German village of Hohenschwangau. Hohenschwangau was the official summer and hunting residence of Maximilian, his wife Marie of Prussia, and their two sons Ludwig (the later King Ludwig II of Bavaria) and Otto (the later King Otto I of Bavaria).

The border between Germany and Austria runs over its summit.The normal climbing route, runs from Scharnitz westwards and below the Ahrntalköpfle to the Riedberg. Below this mountain the path bends to the southwest from the Arnspitzhütte, whence it heads northwest to the summit.

Crossed off a big item from bucket list thanks to Anna and @myrexicon. The castle is just as majestic as it looks in the pictures.
We reached early since we did not purchase the tickets online. Brought the tickets for 1.5 hours later and roamed around the castle and at the marienbruck- the bridge that offers incredible views of the castle. The view is just Incredible, especially with the fall colored mountain backdrops.
The ticket comes with audio guide that works extremely well thoughout the interior tour. It takes about an hour to complete the tour. And just note that you will not be able to go in an earlier slot if you have tickets for later. The entry controls are like in an Airport 😂. And there is no photography allowed inside the castle.
