What travellers say about Muniyara - Anakottapara Park
The dolmens were constructed somewhere between 1,000 BC to 500AD and historians are still not sure whether they were used as burial chambers or places for sages to meditate.
There are more than a dozen of them standing on top of a rocky platform that given incredible panoramic views of the surroundings. The dolmens themselves looks so out of the world, with four rocks acting as the walls and one on top as the roof. Its so amazing to think that they were constructed around 2,000 years ago.
Coming to the present day, I think the authorities could have done a better job to market the place and also to prevent the encroachments of religious institutions. There is a big cross and a small shrine on top of the rock which is kind of weird to see on a place that is historically so important. And oh, there is no one to maintain or look after the site too so the place probably is used for many other bad purposes as well as it is kind of secluded.
