Perennial, spring-fed streams flow to the shores of the Dead Sea.
Qasr BshirRoman fort ruins in the desert of Jordan. One of the best preserved Roman military structure in the world. The fort is built of local stone and forms a with a nearly square reactangle with large projecting rectangular towers in each corner.
Umm ar-RasasSituated in the Jordanian Desert, the site has been allied to the biblical settlement of Mephaat mentioned in the Book of Jeremiah. The Roman military utilized the site as a strategic garrison, but it was later converted and inhabited by Christian and Islamic communities. The mosaic floor of the Church of St Stephen made in 785 (discovered after 1986) is the most important discovery on the site. The perfectly preserved mosaic floor is the largest in Jordan.

This large crusaders castle sits on the edge of a mountain, with stunning views of the towns below.
The castle is separated from rest of the mountain by a moat and it is mostly in ruins. Most parts of the castle that is viewable from the groud is damaged but underneath the top, there are long stretches of dungeons, chambers and huge rooms. This castle was constructed in 1100's and played an important rule in controlling the trade routes in the area. There is a long history of sieges and battles fought to take control of this fort.
In addition the the castle, there is a museum as well functioning at the place. We were there on a friday, so the museum was not open, but the castle was.
