Astrup Fearnley Museum

Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art

A beautiful museum that has a large collection of modern and contemporary art counted among the most significant of its kind in Northern Europe. The museum complements works from the permanent collection by rotating exhibitions with internationally renowned artists. The building is designed by the renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano. It is made up of three pavilions that reside under one distinctive glass roof, which is shaped like a sail.

Borgarsyssel Museum

The museum was named after Borgarsysla, the Old Norse name of Østfold county. Borgarsyssel Museum holds an extensive collection of artifacts and old objects from different periods of time. In addition, there are about 20 old buildings showing Østfold's history from medieval to the present time.

Borgund Stave Church

It was the church for the Lærdal parish until 1868 when it was closed and turned into a museum. The brown, wooden church was built in a stave church style around the year 1200. The museum now run by the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Norwegian Monuments.

Breheimsenteret

Fredriksten fortress

This Fortress was constructed by Denmark-Norway in the 17th century. The fortress is home to several museums and art exhibitions.

It contains the well-known Vigeland installation- a permanent sculpture installation created by Gustav Vigeland between 1924 and 1943. The sculpture park consists of sculptures as well as larger structures such as bridges and fountains.

The museum's stated purpose is to "collect, create and disseminate knowledge about glaciers and climate". It provides information about the glacier Jostedalsbreen and the Jostedalsbreen National Park.

Grimdalstunet is an old farmyard, now a museum, in the hamlet Skafså in Tokke municipality, Telemark. It is known as an artist's home as the sculptor Anne Grimdalen was born and raised here.

Heddal Open Air Museum is located near the historic Heddal Stave Church. Heddal Museum has various buildings representative of the history of local farming dating from the Middle Ages and up to the 1930s. Fyrileivstugu, a living room interior dating from 1932, was transferred to Heddal Museum in 1990. It was the work of noted woodcarver and rosemaling artist, Olav Fyrileiv who was a Telemark native.
